Before you stands a sturdy woman that proudly bares the scars of a lifelong monster hunter. Azar Jazaeri wears her heart on her sleeve, alongside her hunter’s knife. She’s been described as simple, uncomplicated- what you see is what you get. To her friends she is a loyal guard dog, and to those that don’t understand her, she is a rabid animal that will gouge your throat out.

For Azar, simplicity and directness are a given. She completely does not fathom the idea of hiding your true self. While not necessarily well-read or possessing book smarts in any way, she occasionally has a good idea. Her slogan in life and in combat is to move before you think, she trusts her body and her animal instincts to guide her, rather than her heart or her head.

Scarred. Known as someone who spent many long weeks on hunts in the wilderness without access to healers, Azar’s body is riddled with poorly-healed wounds showing her life story. Her scales are ruined across her arms, and a huge burn mark churns across her knee. Armed. ㅤAs a habitual traveler and hunter by trade, Azar carries her life and possessions with her. That includes her massive greatsword, always slung over her back. The thing is rough-hune, made of large cut monster teeth and bones, lashed together with wood and cloth, and a little love. Relentless. She has made a reputation for herself as being unstoppable- in fact it is a point of pride that she is impossible to keep down. She fights in public rings like a caged beast and seems delighted by opponents who can actually land a hit on her. Bloodied, magic. Don’t ask Azar or explain how her connection with the dark arts works, she doesn’t know. Aether is a concept she doesn’t understand, but blood and life she can grasp. Her power as a Dark Knight comes from blood- it absorbs into her sword, fuels dark blasts, she understands it as the tangible power of life.

It is a bit of a running joke with the people who know her that Azar rarely wears clothes that cover her butt. She is so susceptible to the cold, however, that she has a warming enchantment on it to keep herself warm. That aside, she tends to favor leather and fur jackets she can move easily in, alongside metal gauntlets and boots. From the waist up, she is all practicality. From the waist down, she is all vanity.

A year ago, when Azar was at her lowest, a hippo calf crawled into her life. Chickpea escaped an exotic pet ring in Ul'dah, and found the closest warm thing in a cold alleyway of the city- Azar, blacked out after a night of drinking. They have been inseparable ever since. He goes with her everywhere, even on hunts, camping with her in the wilderness and keeping her safe. Or so he thinks.He is a curious, playful, mischievous, greedy, and completely disloyal hippo. Anyone can win his heart with a carefully offered snack, although he is known to bite. He weighs over a hundred pounds and uses his high density to step on, and break, toes and tails for attention. Azar does not train him- he follows his own laws.


When all you are is a weapon, you shoot ‘em down ‘til you end up alone.

THAVNAIR 16 YEARS OLD.ㅤ soldier.

Born to loving parents in a fishing village called Ahvayaka that supported Radz At Han, Azar learned the trade from a young age and committed everything she had to the community. When she was old enough, she enlisted in the Radiant Host to feed her hunger for adventure, and nurture the burgeoning warrior that had shown through in her restless nature at a young age.After slowly rising through the ranks and making a name for herself as the wild child in the company, she earned the title of Captain, and was given her own troop to command. Three of her dear friends who had supported her and trained with her since she could first hold a sword were under her protection, but on her first mission as commander, she failed when it mattered most. When faced with overwhelming odds while protecting a shipment of goods coming in to dock, she crumbled under pressure and ran, leaving Dalmas, the red-haired bright eyed boy adored by all, to die in her stead. She was never able to face her squadron again, nor recover any semblance of honor among the soldiers. A man had died because she ran, and nothing could be worse than turning your back on the people you asked to guard your flank.There was no recovery from such an abject shame, and she eventually returned home to her village after months of trying to redeem herself. Her fellow soldiers shunned her and cast her out, throwing Dalmas' memory in her face and insisting if she hadn't been such a coward, she could have saved him. The hate followed her all the way to her home village shores, where the family of her dead friend spat at her feet and swore a thousand years of curses upon her. In the midst of her shame and grief, she tried to return to her trade of fishing to fill the void left by the camaraderie and action of military life.It was not enough. Nor would the community ever accept her again.

TAILFEATHER 20 YEARS OLD.ㅤ reaper.

So with a sullen goodbye to her family, she boarded the next trade ship to Eorzea, and left to seek a new life, where she would not be plagued by the shadow of her mistakes. For a time, it worked.Azar made her way across the continent, picking up reckless hunting bounties here and there and living off the land as best she could. But not a month after landing in Eorzea, she found herself exchanging her longsword for a scythe, and a raspy voice began taunting in her ear, reminding her of her shameful acts in Thavnair. On a long mission with longer nights, soon her only company was a shade bearing the face of Dalmas, who existed only to berate her for leaving him for dead. The dark creature offered her power to prove she was not the coward everyone knew her to be, and in the state it had driven her to, she made the heinous pact.It would take time for her to understand what she had done, and that she had tied herself to the spirit of the man she had allowed to die. In an attempt to flee the creature, she bounced across the continent, to Tailfeather, where she hoped the company of other hunters might chase the thing away. She joined a band of chocobo poachers there and formed fierce bonds with the like-minded folks. It filled her with purpose, comraderie, and real, genuine friendships. She stayed for nearly three years, until she left to settle in Ul' dah, after a particularly nasty incident with a herd of red chocobos.

In the city of commerce and coin, she dove headfirst into every vice it had to offer. She became a regular at clubs and taverns, always found in the middle of a fight or a juvenile bet or sandwiched between two half naked people in a dark corner. After all, the best way to hide from her old memories is to make new ones. Every night. It was a whirlwind of a life that she supplemented by taking on more and more reckless and dangerous hunt bounties.She believed herself to be happy for a time, but she was continuously starting fights and getting thrown into jail by the Brass Blades for unruly conduct and just generally being loud, violent, and drunk far too often.Through reputation and word of mouth, she was put into contact with a particular group of Sharlayan scholars, who, bright eyed at her promises to get whatever rare monster part they needed, contracted her immediately to start traveling broadly again to bring them their ingredients. She didn't ask questions, and they paid well. She had many debts from her transgressions in Ul'dah to pay off, so she once again became migratory, and in the absence of human hubub distracting her, the whisper crept back into her mind.

TRAVELER 26 YEARS OLD.ㅤ dark knight.

It pushed her to her limit, and nearly her death. Without the company of her fellows in Tailfeather, there was no one to slap her back to life after she had lost control, and given too much of herself to the shade. She did not believe in 'voidsent' and things like 'demons,' but she couldn't deny the blanks in her memory when she woke up, half dead on top of a beast she didn't remember slaying.To this day, she fights it back. She tried to rid herself of the scythe by taking up a basic sword again, but she is untrained, and relies more on dumb luck when she battles. Her ties to people pushed Dalmas away, so that is where she draws her strength from. She bleeds her love to protect what she has left, but the dark arts that forge such knights are still very new to her.One day she may run out of steam, but until then, Azar rides the fine line between ambitious and foolhardy, all the while looking over her shoulder at the ghost of her dead friend who whispers, "You are the coward who killed me."
